Antique Revival , Newburyport, MA

This 1680 Newburyport home is an historic gem, with large portions of the original interior intact. But the home needed changes – the existing kitchen addition at the rear of the home was out-dated and uncomfortable because of its huge expanses of un-insulated glass, and there was no defined entry or mudroom.

The project included a careful and complete renovation of the exterior: new siding, roofing and windows, all to match the existing. The installation of soy-based spray foam insulation minimized heating and cooling losses and provided sound insulation at the busy street.

On the rear of the home, a two-story and single-story addition was added, giving the home an inviting foyer entry, storage and half bath on the first floor and a new master bath with adjacent deck above. The interior of the kitchen was redesigned to function better for the family, and the large expanses of glass in that room were replaced with smaller, more aesthetically appropriate windows.

On the interior, the design kept historical details intact and created new spaces visually consistent with the older areas of the home.

  • "Throughout the entire project Juli was most pleasant and always had a can do attitude. She took the time to get to know us and was sensitive to our desires….Without reservation we would recommend Juli for any architectural challenge.”
